"VILLAGE BOY I AM" POETRY BY: EZEKIEL MOSES

Village boy I am, African boy original
Village boy I am, citizen of the global village
Call me local, barbaric I don’t care
No matter where’d go my root I know
My tribe, my culture traditions in me it flows
African boy original

Village boy I am, black and proud for all I care
Beautiful land of Africa, where the sun shines so bright for all to see
Ice cream and tea is not my thing, Iyan, Eba, Amala, Eforiro (Local African food)
Our mud houses built with clay cooler than Air Conditioner
Early to the stream, to fetch a pail
Wooden sticks to cook my food
Agriculture my heritage, no food for a lazy man

Village boy I am, African boy original
Oyinbo drinks his wine, I drink palm wine and cola nut
Before google was Ifa, whatever you want to find
Festivals now called barbaric, rich heritage despised
Hear the bell town crier calls, what the radio does today
Early morning the cock crows no need to check your watch

Village boy I am, African boy original
Open your eyes and see, beauty of my Motherland
Imported culture a curse
Man and man marry, woman and woman engaged?
From the village where I come, this is nothing but a curse
Village boy I am, African boy original
Yesterday today tomorrow, Africa will rise again

Village boy I am, African original
Hear the sound, feel the beat
Talking drums, bata and omelet
Wrapa that covers the body, not mini shirts that keeps it open
Boys prostrate, girls knees to say, good morning
This is beauty beyond description
See the lantern if no electricity
Surely there’s beauty in diversity
Village boy I am, I believe in Africa
The people, the nations, the traditions
Values that makes us different
