"BOBO THE MUSICIAN" (SHORT STORY) BY: EZEKIEL MOSES

Some years ago there was a popular musician who lived in Kolimia Distric of Lofa County, Liberia who possessed so much magical powers. Bobo was such a powerful musician, admired by all and sundry.

His charm and skills combined with his magical powers keeps fans and spectators in awe of him. He processed such powers that he could disappear or turn into anything he desires. Bobo was such a popular music that was the envy by all. Bobo grew in fame and wealth until… until one day, like the stubborn fly that follows the dead body into the grave.

One day Bobo the powerful musician had a show, the audience were waiting in excitement for the most talked about show in the land. People came from far and near, all for this event and magical display of powers, magic and music mixed with tradition.

Bobo was worried, waiting for the approval of the gods. He was angry at the warning of the oracle, for him not to attend the show. 

The stage was set and the audience were waiting, to see the show in frantic anticipation. Soon the legend appeared, he makes his way into the hall way. Bobo the powerful musician waited by the entrance of the wall, all of a sudden he feels like something was obstructing him from moving forward.  

"I am the fearless and powerful Bobo, who is it or what spirit is it that want to intimidate me?"  he asked. Suddenly, a mystical breeze fell on him and the legend was on the floor. Bobo fell and was rushed home out of the event center. Some of the fans who were waiting to see the much talked about show were all seating in the hall for hours not knowing what had happened.

Soon there was an air of tension and pandemonium when they heard the news that the great lion had fallen, for despising his source of powers and trying to be immortal. 

                               

The news went far to other neighboring villages and communities. Great medicine men in the land were called upon but he who does what no man has done before must be ready to see what no man has ever seen. Bobo died in his palava hut, he tried all he could but the gods had turned back from him. The people had a lesson to learn from his fall, the fall and tragedy of this great hero. 

They decided to keep the memory of him in history and till today, the rock which he worshiped and where he made sacrifice to his gods, is still in his residence as a memorial of him till date.

Truly nothing last longer than "truth and originality" whatever is false will soon fade away.

Wow! Sure you enjoyed that story? This is based on a true life story in Lofa County in Liberia. I came across this story during my tour to five different Counties including Lofa, it was such a didactic story with a rich cultural heritage. The sacred rock of Bobo is still at his residence till date as a memorial and a lesson for all how wants to be immortal despising the God who owns all power.
